Strong debut for seasonal show

 - Published:  08 October, 2007

Butchers from far and wide took a trip to Essex last month to take part in an innovative seasonal trade fair organised by wholesale supplier SauceIt.

The event, entitled an Autumn & Christmas Collection of Meat Ideas, featured a number of leading suppliers to the independent meat sector, who showcased their latest products.

At the core of the event was a demonstration by Verstegen Spices & Sauces on its latest products and how to get the best out of them. New product ideas and ready-meal solutions were highlighted during the show.

The event, which took place at Mountnessing Village Hall, in Mountnessing, Essex, attracted more than 80 butchers, with some making the trip from as far afield as Hull, Portsmouth, the West Midlands and Norwich to take part in the event.

Lindsay Eley, a director at SauceIt, said: "As it was our first independent show, we thought having so many butchers turn up was fantastic. We were absolutely thrilled to bits, as were our working partners."

Other supporters taking part in the show included Bizerba, Windsor Food Machinery, Robot Coupe, LPS and Dupont BV.

The Meat Trades Journal team was also on hand at the show to speak to butchers.

Eley said: "The suppliers have all said that if we hold the event again they'd be interested in supporting it. They've all had very good responses from the show. We're now taking customers out to Belgium to see Dupont."

SauceIt has been trading for four years. Eley said: "We've built the business on the basis that we sell quality with knowledge.

"We specialise in Verstegen products and our product knowledge is second to none."

She added that the event had helped introduce SauceIt to new customers, as well as educating existing butchers on how wide its range actually was.

The company also sells bespoke clothing for the food industry and packaging materials.

Eley said: "Our products are not the sort of thing you would usually find at a normal sundries company. In fact, we don't consider ourselves to be a sundries company."

News of the event has already spread among butchers, she added. "We've spoken to customers who couldn't attend the show, and they've told us they heard it went well."

The company plans to organise another show at the same venue next year.
