Scottish minister behind the counter

Richard Lochhead, the Scottish Executive's cabinet secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment swapped the front bench for the butcher's counter to show his support for Scottish farmers recently.

The minister was joined by Scotch Beef promotional hunk 'Glen' and NFU Scotland president Jim McLaren at Simon Howie's shop in Perth, winner of last year's Butcher's Shop of the Year Awards.

QMS Chairman Donald Biggar, said: "The past week has dealt a blow to our industry, but everyone has worked together to ensure that our red meat supply chain was back up and running as quickly as possible.

"The best thing the people of Scotland can do to support our producers and the whole of the Scottish industry is to get a good Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb or Specially Selected Pork roast on their tables this Sunday."

With a ban on exports currently in force QMS is underlining the importance of people supporting their local producers by looking for the Scotch Label on the beef and lamb they buy.

Meat with the Scotch logo comes from animals that were born, raised and slaughtered in Scotland and come with the promise of fully traceability and guarantees on health and welfare standards.
