Butcher hopes for sweet success

A Scottish butcher is hoping to tap into his country's love of Iron Brew with a new, and unusual, sausage offer.

Stuart's of Buckhaven have created two Iron Brew sausages - the Pork and Iron Brew Banger and the more exotic Pork Sweet Chilli and Iron Brew Banger - to celebrate his company's 150th anniversary.

Recent trials at the company's three butchers shops in Fife at Leven, Lundin Links and Buckhaven, have been an outstanding success.

Alan Stuart, Stuart's managing director, came up with the idea one morning while showering.

He said: "I don't know why, but all my best ideas seem to come to mind in the shower. I had been thinking about producing something memorable with a Scottish twist to mark our 150th anniversary.

"We won the World Scotch Pie Championship last November which was a wonderful way to kick-start our celebratory year and we felt we needed a special new product which could be developed into a really big seller in the future.

"I mused for months about a whole host of Scottish products. We tested the sausage in the bakery and the results were outstanding. Everybody really loved the taste of the Pork and Iron Brew Banger.

Stuart said they were already taking orders for the sausages prior to launch, which will take place on 5 June, and said the idea was more than just a one-off novelty.

"It's all very well being creative but you have to be commercial too. However, we all believe we are onto a real winner with this product which will appeal to all ages."
