Web launch for Fatstock

Isle of Man producers are hoping to widen their appeal with the launch of a new website.

The Fatstock Marketing Association, a producer co-operative which operates the only processing plant on the island, has launched www.isleofmanmeat.com

The company supplies meat to the whole of the island as well as exporting to the UK and continent, but is hoping to appeal to consumers in the UK directly through the website.

The move comes on the back of a major restructure of the business following the appointment of Phil Teare as managing director, whose aim was to cut costs for the operation.

"The idea of the website is to build our consumer business up and deliver meat direct to peoples' doors," he said.

The plant currently slaughters around 1,000 to 1,500 lambs a week, 200 pigs and around 160 cattle. It has also begun processing OTM cattle, and is currently slaughtering around 30 cows a week.
