Butcher reopens following outbreak

 - Published:  30 May, 2007

A Yorkshire butcher's, which closed following an E.coli outbreak, has re-opened its doors to trade.

Spaul's butchers in Cottingley, near Bradford, closed voluntarily after several customers, who had bought cooked meat from the shop, were admitted to hospital with severe gastro-intestinal illness.

Up to 27 people were suspected of contracting the bug and 11 received hospital treatment during the outbreak.

The shop underwent a deep clean and was reopened on the advice of Bradford Council's environmental health department.
