Shopper Talk

 - Published:  09 January, 2007

Tony Bradley-Hole, landlord of The White Horse pub in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex, travels eight miles to his independent butcher, SK Hutchings in Partridge Green, to source all his meat and poultry for the pub menu.

I have been going to Shaun Hutchings' butchers for 20 years now and get all my meat and poultry from there. I use it for the pub and for personal use as well, because I think he produces very good meat. It's top quality, he's not expensive and he provides a very reliable service.

I've never had any complaints from customers about his meat - they find it excellent, with good flavour, particularly the beef. He always says where his meat comes from and sources meat and poultry locally.

I usually visit the shop once a week and regularly buy beef steaks, legs of lamb, loins of pork and sausages for the pub. It's a very busy shop for a small village; there are four butchers working at the back of the shop and two behind the counter.

Shaun does a delivery service, which is sometimes very useful when I'm running a busy pub. You can also ask for more unusual meats and he will be able to get them for you.

When you go into the shop there's always a counter full of meat - it's busy, clean, very competitively priced and open all day and he's always very obliging.

The meat in the shop is also hung properly, so there's no stuff that's been hanging around for a long time.
