£200 ransom demand for porker

An evil kidnapper demands money for safe return of stall owner's 'PERCY'

A butcher is still waiting for the return of his much-loved market stall mascot after it was stolen during a busy Saturday trading day.

Percy, the smiling porker, used to sit proudly on top of the meat counter at the PJ Baker stall at Norwich market, but is now at large and being held to ransom by a sneaky thief.

Staff did not realise the pig was missing until the following Tuesday and it was only when a ransom note and picture of Percy arrived at the stall on the Thursday that they realised someone was playing a prank on them, all in the name of charity.

The note read: "I have got your pig. If you want to see him again pay me £200 or else. No police."

Stall manager, John Walpole, said that they realised it was a joke and whatever ransom they could come up with for the return of the mascot would go to charity.

Philip Baker, owner of the stall, was reported as saying that the ransom demanded was an outrage and joked that he would insist on paying more. "I am prepared to meet whoever did this at an

approved spot for the exchange."
