Slippery customer poses questions

Butcher puts street cred on the line in latest rescue attempt.

A butcher from Somerset had to undertake his second animal rescue in a year this month, although this time the animal in question was a whole lot more slippery.

Julian Dorse, of Julian Dorse butchers in Chard, was alerted by his book-keeper Wendy Davis, to an eel squirming down the street outside his shop.

When faced with the unusual sight, Julian told MTJ: "Wendy asked me 'How do you catch an eel?' and I said, 'Quickly.'

"So I went outside with a pink bucket, which didn't do much for my street-cred and managed to catch it and put it in the bucket. I drove to a local river and released it there."

Earlier this year Julian was greeted in his shop by an escaped chipmunk, which he named Mr Critter. Eventually he managed to catch it and rehome it with a chipmunk breeder nearby.

"Mr Critter now has a very busy social life," Julian joked.

Commenting on the eel, Julian said the wet weather may have tempted the eel into the road: "It's not often that you find an eel swimming in the street," he said.
