SCOTS PLAN TO EMULATE DUTCH SUCCESS

 - Published:  10 November, 2006

A recent visit by Dutch butcher's group Keurslager has been hailed a success by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFTMA).

Over 250 butchers attended four meat demonstrations by Keurslager in conjunction with spice supplier Verstegen.

Keurslager director Rudd Bakker and main skills demonstrator Robert Nagtegaal, were assisted by Roland Snell from Verstegen Rotterdam, at events in Belshill, Inverness, Perth and Aberdeen.

Scottish butchers were shown how to assemble 15 new products and invited to examine and discuss the potential of the dishes shown.

The four events were funded through the European Social Fund projects in both lowland Scotland and the Highlands and Islands.

SFTMA chief executive Douglas Scott said: "[Keurslager] promote themselves in partnership with sundries suppliers and so differentiate themselves from the supermarkets. Keurslager shops are denoted by a big K and are so high profile that they advertise on TV."
