Top billing for the Whizzer

 - Published:  01 November, 2006

Aubrey Allen's Warwickshire Whizzer sausage is to make an appearance on television after it won a competition on the BBC show Jimmy's Farm.

The spicy pork sausage, made with tomato, chilli, smoked paprika and mustard seeds, won the public vote at the Sizzling Sausage Fest on Jimmy Doherty's Suffolk farm, where butchers cooked samples for visitors who awarded them points for taste, appearance and texture. Each butcher cooked their sausages on barbecues and sold the raw version for hungry guests to take home.

There was also a chance for visitors to make their own sausage, a sausage eating competition and a 'guess the weight' of a giant sausage competition.

Music from local bands and Morris dancers entertained visitors and British beer, wine and cider completed the day.

Russell Allen said the TV appearance will benefit the whole industry: "It is raising the profile of British sausages," he said.

It was the combination of the "integrity of ingredients, the free-range pork, spice and flavour, which is not too overpowering", that won the prize, he said.
