A vital new resource for butchers

 - Published:  01 June, 2006

Welcome to this, the first ever edition of MTJ Extra, the new magazine from the Meat Trades Journal that is aimed directly at the independent retail butcher and farm-shop operators.

We are looking to bring you a monthly, balanced diet of news, information and advice to enable you to bring out the best in your business.

Myself and the team at MTJ are aiming to provide thought-provoking articles and features which will not only generate debate but also offer new or different ideas on all areas of the butchery and retail trade. And not forgetting a little bit of entertainment too!

In our debut issue, you will find a wide range of topics covered, from how to effectively promote your business, to a step-by-step guide to producing award-winning sausages from our Champion of Champions winner, Craig Rollinson. Our pork category report takes a look at what is making consumers tick and how the industry is responding.

For butcher's and farm shop owners looking to gain some recognition, our resident agony uncle, and former editor, Fred A'Court is also on hand to dispense some top advice on how to put together an award winning entry for our new competition, Butcher's Shop of the Year - don't forget to follow his advice and get your entries in as soon as possible.

The most important thing, however, is to remember that this is your magazine, and if there are things you would like to see us write about, or regular features you think we should be running, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
