Paice's plea

 - Published:  19 May, 2006

SHADOW AGRICULTURE Minister Jim Paice has called on the government to minimise the impact on butchers of new regulations requiring the removal of vertebral column from cattle carcases over 24 months old.

In a letter to David Miliband, Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and Deirdre Hutton, chair of the Food Standards Agency, Paice said it was imperative that the impact of these regulations on domestic butchers be minimised.
