Stars lend weight to butcher's charity appeal

Delboy's Reliant Robin van was a star attraction at Berkhamsted butcher Joe Collier's charity night which raised £10,000 for a children's hospice.

Guests paid to have their picture taken with the yellow three-wheeler belonging to 'Trotters Independent Traders- New York ,Paris and Peckham'.

Local resident Del Trotter, aka Sir David Jason, sent a DVD pack for the auction. Audience participation created some good comedy when some went on stage to try their hand at linking sausages made by award-winning sausage maker Allan Bennett.

Donations also came from racing driver Jensen Button and chef Jean Paul Novelli who gave eight places at his cookery school. Also auctioned was a high peak lamb from Top Shop winning Derbyshire butcher John Mettrick. Royal Windsor gave a hamper.

Compered by London butcher David Lidgate, the show raised £5,000 before the doors opened as the 500-seat theatre was sold out for the evening's presentation of meat cutting, sausage making and cooking.

Collier cut a lamb for TV cook Clarissa Dickson Wright to cook - focusing in particular on the Butterfly cutlets. Paul Kelly from Kelly Turkeys gave a presentation on cooking and carving a turkey.

"The evening was fantastic," said Joe. "The evening flew by and disappointment was expressed loudly when it was announced that the show was over. People just did not want to go home."
