Fine for butcher after rotten find

A NOTTINGHAM butcher has been fined almost £5,000 after rotting meat was discovered dumped outside his store.

Zafar Iqbal,Kashmir Halal Meat, Radford Road, Hyson Green, admitted contravening food safety regulations and breaching an enforcement notice when he appeared before Nottingham magistrates.

The court heard that Iqbal had been served with an enforcement notice to stop him dumping the meat outside the store, but had ignored it.

In mitigation it was said that £20,000 had been spent upgrading the premises and the problem no longer existed. Iqbal was fined £3,000 for non-compliance with the enforcement order. He was fined £750 for the food safety regulation breaches, and ordered to pay costs of £1,155.
