Eastern promise
Eastern Europe and emerging markets are expected to make significant visitor numbers at IFFA the international trade fair for the meat industry to be held in Frankfurt from 5-10 May 2007.
Messe Frankfurt is expecting around 850 exhibitors over roughly 120,000sqm2 of exhibition space and nearly 60,000 trade visitors from around the world.
Michael Sturm at Messe Frankfurt said: "The mood in the industry in the run-up to IFFA is very good. Global meat consumption is set to grow rapidly over the next few years, and naturally this will lead to a corresponding increase in the demand for meat processing equipment."
Products on offer at IFFA will cover the entire meat processing chain from slaughtering to dressing, processing, packaging and selling meats. Other product areas include spices and ingredients. Automation and handling technology also play a prominent role. "Not only is the degree of automation increasing, but modern meat processing machines also easier to operate and come equipped with more effective control technology."
Russia and Poland were among the top five visitor countries in 2004. The number of visitors from Russia nearly doubled from 2001 to 2004. "Both of these countries are important growth markets in Europe and we expect the visitors from these countries to increase once gain at IFFA 2007," added Sturm.
"We also expect the number of visitors from other emerging markets around the world to increase in 2007, including Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine, Turkey, China and India. In all of these countries per capita meat consumption is set to rise over the next few years, while consumption in western industrialised nations is expected to remain stable during this time."
UK butchers might want to attend the event to see their German counterparts members of the German Butchers' Association taking part in daily competitions. And the trade fair is ideal for sausage enthusiasts as it will boast more than 1,500 varieties.
