Smithfield show will move to Stonleigh

The Royal Smithfield Club has announced plans to move its livestock show and primestock competitions to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.

The last two livestock shows were held at the Royal Bath & West of England Showground, Somerset, under an agreement with the Royal Bath & West of England Society that lapsed at the end of December.

Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December have been pencilled in as dates for this year's event at the new venue, although talks to complete the move are still going on.

Club chairman John Campbell said: "Our plans are well-advanced for establishing a new home for our Show in the middle of the country, as requested by many of our livestock exhibitors."

The Royal Bath & West of England Society has recently unveiled plans to transform the Somerset showground into a major South West visitor destination and tourist attraction.

It claims it will become the first energy self-sufficient showground in the UK, creating more than 1,500 jobs with a redevelopment of its site costing £120m.
