Butchery trainees ready for action

 - Published:  02 February, 2009

Meat processor Dunbia has sent four young butchers on their way to a successful career following the completion of a company training scheme.

Dunbia's Butchery Academy, set up last year, has seen its first group of students progress through their initial training, which will help them pass the NVQ Level 2 qualification in Meat and Poultry Processing Operations.

Andrew Chamberlain, Stephen Cunningham, Alexandras Braiko and Jackson Cunha will now will be working at a number of Dunbia sites across the UK, putting their training into practise.

The programme included on and off the job training, classroom-based learning and butchery demonstrations as well as internal courses on food hygiene, manual handling, knife safety, health and safety and basic meat appreciation.

The Butchery Academy programme aims to develop the participant's skills and knowledge of traditional craft butchery and industry specifics, as well as create enthusiasm and commitment to Dunbia and to support trainees' own keenness to learn and improve.
