FMD all clear - restrictions lifted

 - Published:  30 October, 2006

Restrictions have now been lifted on the Cheale Meats slaughterhouse in Essex, following a suspected foot and mouth disease outbreak.

Final negative tests for the disease have confirmed the results of earlier tests for both FMD and Swine Versicular Disease.

Movement of farm animals within a five-mile radius of the slaughterhouse and the farm the pigs came from had been restricted to prevent the possible spread of disease pending the results.

Cheale Meats, in Little Warley, was the first place where FMD was confirmed in February 2001.
