Food research and technology organisation Campden BRI has appointed a new director-general to replace Professor Colin Dennis CBE, who is retiring later this year.
Commenting on the apppointment, Bob Clarke, chairman of Campden BRI said: "I am very much looking forward to working with Steven in the further development and strengthening of Campden BRI. Steven knows the business extremely well having 22 years service with 14 of those at director level.
"He has played a major role in both the scientific and commercial aspects of the business, has worked closely with our members, Government and trade bodies on many issues, and has been actively involved in the evaluation of other research organisations in the UK and overseas. He is ideally placed to bring this business forward."
Professor Colin Dennis has been director general of Campden BRI for 20 years. Under his leadership, the organisation has grown from a turnover of £2.5m in 1988 to over £18m in 2008, with 385 staff and over 2000 clients in over 60 countries. In recognition of his contribution to the agri-food industry, he was awarded a CBE in this year's honours list.
He said: "I am absolutely delighted and greatly honoured by this appointment. Although personal, I very much see it as an award for the work and reputation of Campden BRI and all its employees.
"It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity of leading the organisation for over 20 years and at I time when we have seen our services in increasing demand by large, medium and small companies in many countries of the world."
