Mercury takes over Certiforms

 - Published:  09 January, 2009

Mercury Packaging has taken over food packaging specialist Certiforms.

The investment will boost Mercury's turnover by £1.2 million and will allow the Nottinghamshire-based company to offer enhanced print capabilities, production efficiencies and technical expertise, as well as significantly increase its presence in the food industry.

Commenting on the acquisition, Tony Stanger, Mercury Packaging's managing director said: "We are very excited about the acquisition of the Certiforms business and believe it will have a positive impact on customers, employees and suppliers. It is a natural fit with Mercury and enables us to offer enhanced production and print capacity together with strengthened service levels and technical excellence. It also allows us to quickly penetrate the previously untapped food industry."

Certiforms currently operates from a facility in Macclesfield where it manufactures high quality wicketted bags in a wide range of sizes, thicknesses and substrates including low and high density polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), co-extruded films, and polyester. Bags are provided plain or printed in up to eight colours.

Mercury specialises in the supply of high clarity PP films for display purposes as well as a variety of PE film specially designed to provide the strength and impact qualities required for protection. It has recently added a range of laminates to supplement its single ply films for the food packaging sector.

Established in 1999, Mercury employs some 50 people at its site in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and has a current turnover of £5 million.
