"I am delighted to follow Neil Gourlay as Chairman of the Royal Smithfield Club," he said. "Neil has ably guided the Club through some difficult times and I am pleased to be able to have his support as my deputy for 2009. Each new year brings new challenges for the industry and I am confident that the Smithfield team will meet these challenges and the Club will continue to fulfil its role within the agri-business and meat trade sectors for many years to come."
