PM's wife donates turkey
The Prime Minister's wife, Sarah Brown, has donated a turkey to a charity for low income people in Westminster after a presentation by the British Turkey Federation.
The 8kg turkey was handed to Brown by Tom Copas of Copas Traditional Turkeys on behalf of the Federation at a ceremony at No 10, Downing Street, and will be presented to charity In-Deep which helps lonely, elderly and low income people in the borough of Westminster.
Brown said: "A British turkey is traditional and still the best way to enjoy a Christmas family dinner."
She added: "This turkey will feed around 28 people so it will go a long way towards helping less fortunate people have a happier Christmas."
The tradition of presenting a turkey to the Downing Street started when Winston Churchill was Prime Minister and the Browns will be joining 20 million other families in Britain in tucking into a turkey on Christmas Day.
Tom Copas, an immediate past Master of the Worshipful Company of Farmers, said: "We are proud to be a hard-working family business intent on producing turkeys with the best welfare and eating quality in the UK and we are delighted that turkey is still the No 1 choice for families at Christmas."
