Cattle dioxin test results delayed

 - Published:  17 December, 2008

The results from tests on cattle found to have potentially received feed contaminated with dioxins will not be out until next week.

It follows the European Standing Committee on Food Chain and Animal Health (SCOFCAH)'s decision that potentially affected herds could not be derestricted on the basis of PCB marker testing alone and that dioxin testing would be required.

As a result the samples from the eight farms that Irish authorities derestricted were required to be forwarded to a specialist laboratory in England for these confirmatory tests. The results of these will be available next Monday.
