World chef competition to use Scottish meat
A company that specialises in Scottish meat has won the tender to supply an international chef's competition with Aberdeen Angus Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb.
Scotbeef of Bridge of Allan will supply the meat to the Bocuse d'Or chef competition, held in Lyon in January next year, with 28 competition boxes containing tail, cheeks, foreribs and a fillet specifically matured and ready for the chefs to use.
Scotbeef general manager and head of exports Simon Dowling said: "We're absolutely delighted to have been awarded the tender to supply beef for Bocuse d'Or, as it gives us a great opportunity to highlight the quality and versatility of our products.
"Being involved in initiatives such as this builds on our existing work with the premium market and will open up further new export opportunities for Scotch Beef in Europe."
Now in its 22nd year, the Bocuse d'Or attracts top chefs from all over the world to compete for the coveted gold prize, for which Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) worked hard to ensure Scotch Beef was selected as the official meat for the competition.
Laurent Vernet, QMS head of marketing, said: "To have the Scottish industry supplying the meat is a great opportunity to give some of the world's top chefs hands-on experience of the quality and taste of Scotch Beef."
As well as supplying Scotch Beef for the competition, Scotbeef's lamb will also be the centrepiece for the 2009 gala dinner.
