Norfolk poultry plans are pulled ahead of meeting
Proposals for a poultry rendering plant in rural Norfolk have been withdrawn ahead of a council planning committee meeting.
However, opponents of the scheme believe a revised application may follow before long.
There has been strong opposition to the proposal by Hilltop Renders for a plant at Brockdish, near Diss, that could handle around 2,000t of poultry waste per month. About 400 opponents highlighted noise, smell and heavy traffic as major sources of concern when they lodged their official objections.
While generating hundreds of thousands of tonnes of waste annually, East Anglia's poultry industry provides thousands of much-needed jobs. Bernard Matthews, Banham Poultry, GW Padley and Grampian Country Foods have been among the region's major poultry processors.
