Popular butcher mourned

Douglas Raeburn, of Forbes Raeburn butchers, was a well known businessman in the area. His elder brother, Charles, who runs another outlet of the family butchers in the town, told local newsmen: "He was just finishing clearing up in the shop when he was taken ill. He had been in ill health for several years. Tragically, nothing could be done to save him."

Bill McConnachie, the president of the local pipe band, with whom Mr Raeburn played, said: "Douglas was both a fine musician and a fine man, well-known and popular throughout the town. Everyone's thoughts are with his family."

Huntly Business Association chairman David Sherriffs added: "Douglas was widely-known and very well-liked. His death is a sad loss for his whole family, and for the whole community."

The family business was started by Douglas' father, Forbes, in the 1960s.
