National Butchers' Week 2012

The new website will act as a portal for the campaign, providing butchers, consumers and the media with information, inspiration and the latest news and updates. A special ‘Ask the Expert’ section will allow consumers to ask meat-related questions that will be answered by a panel of industry experts in the run-up to and during the week.

The panel for 2012 includes two winners from the 2011 Butcher’s Shop of the Year awards — overall winner John Davidson and lifetime achievement winner John Taylor — as well as former Meat Trades Journal editor Fred A’Court and current editor Ed Bedington.

Other features on the site include a PR section, a news section and a schools section, with resources for schools taking part, including lesson plans that link to the National Curriculum. It also has a recipe section featuring pork, lamb, beef and poultry recipes.

In addition to the website, the campaign will be promoted through the National Butchers’ Week Twitter feed and Facebook page, as well as in the national and regional press.

National Butchers’ Week 2012 is being supported by a number of high-profile sponsors, including Eblex, Bpex, Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), Lucas Ingredients, Gordon Rhodes (Dalesman) and Trunet. Other trade associations backing the week include the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders, the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association and the Q Guild.
