Fire destroys Scotch pie champion’s shop
Award-winning Scottish butcher Paul Boyle has had to interrupt business due to a criminal fire that destroyed his Bathgate shop. Three young people have been arrested following the incident, which happened at Boghall Butchers on 15 January around 3am.
Paul said the “vandalism” had done extensive damage to his shop, but that he was hoping to re-open in the same premises in about three weeks. “We have been open for 37 years and have a very loyal customer base. We have never had to close before and we are worried that customers will go elsewhere to get their supply,” he told Meat Trades Journal.
However, Paul added that he had received hundreds of messages of support via email and Facebook, and that he hoped the shop’s good reputation and award-winning pies would encourage customers to come back.
“We have been inundated with messages of encouragement from customers and people in the council,” he said.
