A halal business is mourning the loss of one of its managers after he was allegedly murdered on a trip home to Pakistan.

Mohammed Azhar Iqbal, 30, who was the manager of the halal concession at Asda’s Perry Barr store, is reported to have been shot dead by robbers outside his home in Rawalpindi last week.

Ali Zaidi, CEO of Sandwell Foods, which runs the concession, said: “It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our manager at Perry Barr concession was murdered last night in Pakistan as he was on a visit there. [He was] a very hard-working guy, who had been given awards by Perry Barr store on a few occasions as best-performing worker.”

Noor Ali, buyer ethnic non-food, frozen foods & ethnic concessions with Asda, said: “We’re devastated by the news. He was an extremely competent manager and got on very well with everyone. It’s a big loss. Our thoughts are with his family and we’ll be supporting the family and the company.”
