Faccenda plans to extend Telford plant
|
Chicken processor Faccenda has said it will create 347 new jobs if plans to extend its Telford factory are given the go-ahead.
The company has submitted a planning application for a 13,490m2 extension to its existing 6,258m2 factory at Hortonwood industrial estate. The extension would accommodate new cutting and portioning lines, chilled despatch warehousing and new administration and staff facilities.
Faccenda uses its Telford factory to portion and pack chicken products for distribution to supermarkets and the catering industry. Currently, chicken portions are dispatched from Telford to Faccenda’s Dudley facility for further processing, before returning to Telford for packaging.
In its application, the company said the extension would enable the company to integrate the activities carried out at Dudley into the Telford plant, thus making the business “more efficient and more sustainable”. Faccenda currently employs 453 workers and said that this would rise to 800 once the extension was completed.
The application has gone through consultation at Telford & Wrekin Council and, although there were some initial objections raised by council officers regarding biodiversity and woodland management, these have now been withdrawn. Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council said it had not received any objections to the application.
In a report to Telford and Wrekin Council’s board, planning officers recommended that the application be approved with conditions, stating that the development would provide “a welcome boost to the flagging economy”.
The application will be discussed at the Telford & Wrekin Council’s board meeting today (18 January).
