Paris show set to sizzle
Representatives from the Scottish and Northern Ireland meat industry are to don their berets this month as Paris stages the SIAL International Food show.
Both Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) will be attending the event, which takes place between 19-23 October and attracts more than 150,000 visitors from over 190 countries.
QMS Chairman Donald Biggar said: "With all the world's meat exporting nations descending on Paris this month, it's critically important for Scotland's exporters to have a strong presence at this show and explain what makes Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb different and desirable to their customers."
The five day event is seen as one of the most important trade fairs for Europe's food buyers and more than 30,000 visitors are expected in the meat section of the exhibition alone. Companies confirmed to be working from the QMS stand include Scotbeef, ABP (Scotland), Scotch Premier and Dawn Meats.
The LMC will also be exhibiting again this year along with Linden Foods, ABP, the Foyle Food Group and Dunbia.
David Rutledge, LMC chief executive, said: "With our high standards of traceability and assurance, our production and processing skills and our reputation for producing a high quality and competitive product, Northern Ireland is well equipped to meet the needs of the international marketplace."
Six beef and sheep farmers will be travelling to the show with LMC to see first hand the extent of the international competition and witness how the Northern Ireland industry sells its credentials to an international audience.
Export Development Executive Jelmer Hania said: "The six producers have a great opportunity at this show to meet, probably for the first time, with international red meat buyers and ask them what exactly it is they look for when buying beef and lamb."
