World Scotch Pie champion announced today
The results of the 13th World Scotch Pie Championships will be announced today at the Conference Centre at Carnegie College, Dunfermline.
The Scotch Pie category attracted 86 entries from butchers and bakers, but there were also a range of other categories, with 120 hot savouries, 66 sausage rolls, 63 bridies, 48 steak pies, 12 vegetarian and 10 fish pie entries.
Maurice Irvine of Beith, Ayrshire, is defending his title from a strong field, including English heavyweight Greenhalgh’s, which has 60 outlets in the north-west of England.
Alan Stuart, the organiser and competition founder, of Stuart’s of Buckhaven, said: “This is a testament to the competition as we keep on growing. The fact that we have attracted an English-based, long-established family business with 60 outlets, is a major breakthrough for us. They have branches in major towns and cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Wigan and Preston.
“However, we also have a number of previous winners in the field and it will be interesting to see if a butcher or baker from one of Scotland’s major cities wins the World Scotch Pie Championship for the first time.”
