ABP develops Yorkshire abattoir

 - Published:  23 December, 2011

ABP UK has applied for planning permission to update its Murton Lane abattoir in York. The developments will not increase capacity, but will improve animal welfare and sustainability.

The processor is planning to update the abattoir’s equipment to reduce waste, energy, noise and odour, and the move could lead to the creation of new jobs in the facility.

Tom Kirwan, ABP UK managing director, said: “The current beef processing facility at Murton Lane has served the company well for over three decades and provides direct employment for 120 local staff. To ensure that ABP continues as the leading beef processor in the UK, it is important that we invest in all our facilities and we have decided that a replacement for our existing abattoir in York is a great opportunity for the company, our employees, customers and farmer suppliers.”
