Howie celebrates new honour
A Scottish butcher and processor has won a prestigious award in recognition of his business achievements.
Simon Howie, chairman of Perthshire-based Scottish family butcher Simon Howie Foods, was awarded the prestigious Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Business Award 2011 in recognition of his outstanding business achievements.
Having started his first butcher’s shop in Dunning in 1986 at the age of 19, Simon went on to open a 40,000sq ft factory in the village to service many of Scotland’s finest hotels and, in the last few years, provide meat products to Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Tesco.
Howie said: “I’m delighted with this award and accept it on behalf of my staff across my various business ventures: as anyone in business knows, a business is only as good as its staff, and I’ve the best staff in the business! I’d like to thank the judging panel for nominating me and, of course, everyone who voted for me.
“Despite the challenging economic environment within which we operate, the business remains focused firmly on achieving significant growth over the coming years and recognition such as this magnificent accolade gives myself, my management team and our hard-working staff a tremendous boost, through the acknowledgement that we are providing our customers and clients with quality products and services.”
