 - Published:  01 December, 2011

Farmers sold their livestock for record prices at the Skipton Auction Mart’s Christmas primestock show. Supreme championship was awarded to a British Blue-cross heifer, a Beltex-cross lamb trio, and a Pietrain-cross-Large White pig trio.

The title winner in the cattle classes belonged to Clare Cropper and John Mellin of Mill House Farm, Long Preston. They sold it for £2,550, or £5.10/kg, to James Robertshaw of Keelham Farm Shp in Thornton, Bradford.

James Garth & Son, of Birk Knott Farm in Keasden, received the sheep trio champion title for the third time in four years, selling it for a record price of £690 to processor Dunbia Foods.

The winning prime pig trio was shown by James Middleton of Amerdale House in Arncliffe, and sold at £182 per head to John Summers Family Butchers in Clayton.

CCM Auction chairman Anthony Hewetson, who presented trophies to the supreme beef and lamb champions, said: “Today represents the culmination and celebration of a fantastic fatstock year at Skipton, which has seen record numbers pass through the sales rings and record prices achieved.”
