Scottish farmer secures deal with Whole Foods

Perth-based organic livestock and poultry farmer Hugh Grierson will be supplying meat to the first Scottish Whole Foods store opening near Glasgow on 16 November.

Hugh’s wife and co-owner of the farm Sascha said the contract would mean increased business. “We were thrilled to get the call. It’s a beautiful brand, and it’s going to increase the volume of produce going out,” she said.

At the beginning, the Griersons will supply between 20 and 30 birds a week to the store, but the contract will later be adjusted according to what customers want.

“It’s impossible to know how it’s going to go, but it’s a very exciting opportunity for us. We’re in a good place,” Sascha added.

The American store prides itself in sourcing its food locally, and approached the Griersons about six months ago. “We produce organic meat and poultry on a very small scale, and we have been selling directly for eight years with a customer-based approach,” said Sascha.
