HSE investigates injury at halal supplier

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating following a serious injury to a worker at a meat processing plant in the Midlands.

A 48 year old agency worker, who is believed to be from Bulgaria but who has not yet been named, had his right hand partially crushed after becoming trapped in a meat sorting machine at the Kingswinford plant of Janan Meat, one of the UK’s leading providers of halal lamb and mutton products.

The worker was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent emergency surgery on his right hand.

The HSE said responsibility for the accident cannot be apportioned until the investigation has been completed.
