Still time to enter Great Yorkshire Pie, Sausage & Products competition
White Rose butchers have until Saturday November 12 to submit their entries to the 2011 Great Yorkshire Pie, Sausage & Products competition. The 23rd annual ‘battle of the butchers,’ organised by the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils, will take place on Sunday, November 20, at Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford.
As always, the competition will feature three pork pie classes for traditional, stand and speciality cold eating pies, and three sausage classes – thin, thick and speciality. Supreme champions and reserve supreme champions will emerge in both these flagship classes.
There are also standalone black pudding and beef burger competition classes, as well as the ‘New Kid on the Block’ class for the best newcomer to the competition, which was introduced for the first time last year.
Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils’ president, Ilkley butcher David Lishman, said: “The contest presents an annual opportunity for the county’s meat men and women to demonstrate their capabilities in hand-crafting traditional butchers’ products in competition with their fellow butchers.
“We want as many of them as possible to take up the gauntlet, with a special trophy again available to newcomers in a standalone ‘New Kid on the Block’ class, purpose designed to encourage new blood to enter and gain valuable experience in the meat trades competition arena.”
Farm shops and bakers who make products on their own premises are also eligible to enter the Great Yorkshire competiton. Full details and a dowloadable competition entry form are available at www.greatyorkscomp.uk
