Premier Foods shuffles leadership team following poor results
Premier Foods has announced substantial changes to its leadership team following a year-on-year decline, which has resulted in the company announcing the sell-off of many of its brands.
After separating the grocery and bakery businesses, the company is creating two new group executive roles in a bid to strengthen its leadership team and concentrate on renewed growth.
Graham Hunter, of 2 Sisters Food Group and Northern Foods, will head up the grocery business while Iwan Williams will take on the newly configured bakery business, which includes the retailer-branded chilled ready meals business, Brookes Avana. They will report directly to the chief executive officer Michael Clarke, who joined Premier Foods from Kraft in September.
The role of chief operating officer will disappear, with current COO Tim Kelly leaving the company after a short handover.
Clarke said: “I am delighted to welcome Iwan and Graham to Premier Foods. We are pleased to have attracted two outstanding individuals to these new key roles and I look forward to working with them both as we start to rebuild the company.”
“I also want to thank Tim for his contribution and leadership over the years.”
The company has posted results consistently below expectations this year. It showed profits down 28.7% to £67m in the half year ending 25 June 2011, followed by a disappointing third quarter where group sales were down again by 3.6%. The management changes follow the announcement that the company will dispose of many of its businesses to concentrate on eight core brands.
