Scottish butchers join forces for breast cancer charity

The Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFMTA) has run a fund-raising campaign for charity Breast Cancer Care. For a week, 101 butchers agreed to wear pink aprons, wigs and accessories to raise awareness on the disease.

SFMTA chief executive Douglas Scott said: “It’s a good cause, and the kind of thing butchers can get involved in so we encouraged our members to do it.”

James Moffat raised £477 at his butcher’s shop in Schotts. He said: “We all know somebody who has been affected by breast cancer, so we wanted to do our part.” Customers in his shop really enjoyed it and found the pink outfits very entertaining.

“It also spreads a good word in the local audience,” Scott added, explaining the operation caught the attention of the local media. “It’s not only good for charity, but also for business,” he said.

The SFMTA will announce the total amount raised by the campaign within a month.
