Butcher closes down after 24 years of service
Trevor Harvey has been forced to close down his shop in Warsash, Hampshire, after struggling to keep afloat for over two years.
The butcher had been in the village for 24 years, but confessed he “lost his way” with the recession. “I’ve done quite a lot to try and resolve the problem, but it hasn’t been enough,” he added. He is planning to get involved with Andrew Grove’s Bishops Waltham’s shop until he retires. “The shop was supposed to be my pension fund – that’s the most upsetting thing,” he said.
Customers are now sending him letters expressing their support, and stocking up on his meat before it is too late. “They’re very upset,” he added. “It’s a sad story.”
A few weeks ago, Trevor called for help in his local newspaper The Western Ward Gazette, saying: “As each week goes by, I think it cannot get any worse and it does. If I have too many more weeks like this, then I’ll have to close.”
