Three arrest on suspicion of rustling
Three people have been arrested and released on bail in connection with the largest incident of sheep rustling in the last 25 years.
A flock of sheep worth up to £100,000 was stolen from a farm in Stenigot near Louth, Lincolnshire in September. The 1,500-strong flock was taken from fields in the middle of the night in what police believed was a very organised crime, raising fears that the meat would enter the food chain illegally through unregulated abattoirs.
A 38-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from Stenigot, Lincolnshire, together with a 63-year-old man from Nettleton, near Market Rasen, were arrested for theft and interviewed at Skegness Police Station. The investigation is ongoing.
Incidents of the sheep rustling have increased in recent months as the price of lamb soars.
