RWM to consult on redundancies

 - Published:  14 October, 2011

The RWM Food Group has announced a plan to consult with staff over potential redundancies following the loss of a major retail contract.

The business, which was acquired by ABP UK earlier this week, said it had suffered the cancellation of a “substantial” order for retail packed meat from a major multiple retail customer.

As a result, it was now carrying out a consultation process with 150 of the 500 employees based at its Yetminster, Dorset site, although a company spokesman said it was unlikely all 150 would be affected.

A spokesman said: “We were notified of the cancellation last week and it has come as a shock to RWM.  We intend to make a powerful case to reverse this decision, win back the business and prevent significant job losses.

“The staff in our retail packing plant produce an outstanding product, The lost order represented over half the production at the facility and was strategically important. We have invested 40 years into growing and developing the business. This is a dreadful day for us.”
