Northumberland butcher wins six golds at sausage competition

 - Published:  11 October, 2011

Rothbury Family Butchers has scored 98% or over for each of the six creations presented at the Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year competition. The shop’s pork, pear, and black pudding sausage was judged ‘best of the best’ and will compete in the finals on 21 October 2011 in London.

Owner Morris Adamson said: “Nowadays to win any gold in competitions is amazing as they’re only given out to products scoring 95% or above, but to get six is unbelievable!

“I got the idea for the sausage at a restaurant when I had black pudding topped with pear chutney for a starter. I thought the combination worked well so tried it in a sausage and fortunately for us it’s come up trumps!”

The shop’s sausage maker, Michael Magneron, will attend the finals with Adamson before opening Rothbury Family Butchers’ new franchise at Heighley gate Garden centre near Morpeth. He said: “It’s particularly rewarding as two of the sausages entered have never been entered in a competition before so to get Gold at the first attempt was fantastic for us.”
