Turtons wins top food standard accreditation
West Country catering butcher Turtons of Devon has been awarded a major industry accreditation in recognition of its high food safety and hygiene standards.
The butchers’ undertook a rigourous auditing process to achieve the NACB/EFSIS standard for catering butchers, and is now one of only 33 companies to hold the standard in the country.
The NACB/EFSIS Catering Butchers Standards is run by the National Association of Catering Butchers and European Food Safety Inspection Service. It is widely recognised as the industry’s premier hygiene standard, designed to allow companies to gradually raise their standards through three different levels.
Steve Turton of Turtons of Devon said: “We are proud to attain this standard and thrilled to become the first company in Devon to join a very small group of companies nationally operating under the most stringent of standards. This new accreditation offers our catering customers complete peace of mind and assurance that every product we sell is of the highest quality – it also adds weight to their own HACCP/Food Safety responsibilities.”
Turtons already holds several industry standards including full EU Cutting Plant Approval for its purpose-built premises, Assured British Meat Approval, and Red Tractor Approval. The firm’s recently launched Black Label Beef range has also achieved full traceability approval under the Beef Labelling Scheme, having been audited by the Rural Payments Agency and SAI Global Food Standards.
The family run butchers’ was set up by experienced butcher Steve Turton and his son Andrew three years ago, and supply premium quality, locally-sourced meat to leading chefs in London and the South West.
