Fairfax Meadow has announced a new role for the managing director who steered it through turbulent times to the position of the UK’s leading catering butcher.
Gerry Wensley, who led the Derby firm to increase sales from £77m in 2001 to c£150m in 2011, will become chief executive from 1 January 2012.
He will be replaced in his managing director role by sales director Penny Tomlinson, who has been with the business for over 10 years
Commenting on his new role, Wensley said: “I am not intending to slow down yet, but want to ensure that I can devote more of my time and energy to the longer-term future plans for our business and this move will enable me to do just that. It personally gives me immense satisfaction to see Penny taking over as managing director and I will be on hand, as ever, to provide encouragement and support well into the future.”
David Gray, managing director for Fairfax Meadow’s parent company Argent Group, added: “Gerry’s contribution to the success of Fairfax Meadow is immeasurable. We are delighted that as chief executive Gerry continues to lead and control the business well into the future and that Fairfax Meadow and its customers can continue to benefit from his vast knowledge and enthusiasm. “
The company has also appointed David Howarth into the newly created role of group commercial director. Speaking of the appointment, Tomlinson said: “David brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to Fairfax. His broad experience in the foodservice sector and his strong relationships with many key players in the business will be valuable assets as we continue to develop and deliver our business growth strategy.”
