Title fight for World Scotch Pie Champion

Last year, Fife butcher Amos Smith, proprietor of W F Stark in Buckhaven, won the title at his first attempt. This year's National Scotch Pie Week will run from Saturday 22 to Saturday 29 November, 2008.

Organiser Alan Stuart said he hoped to improve on the first two years' collection efforts, which saw £11,000 and £6,000 amassed respectively for the Scottish Society for Autism. "With a new strategy in place, we hope to gather a much larger contribution from our customers than previously, as the bulk of the money raised in the past was down to the generosity of businesses rather than the public."

As usual, there will be three categories: Scotch Pies, Bridies and Speciality Savouries. Entry is open to all bakers and butchers in the latter categories. However, only members of the Scotch Pie Club may enter the Championship. This year will also see a new award for the best Sporty Savoury Snack. This product should have a healthy slant and appeal to consumers looking for an energy-boosting product that fits in with a balanced diet.

The 10th Annual Scotch Pie Championships will be held at Carnegie College, Dunfermline on Tuesday 4 November, 2008. The awards lunch will be held at the BLCC, Carnegie College, on Thursday 27 November 2008
