Bpex appoints two new board members
Bpex has appointed two new members to its board of directors: Richard Hooper from Harper Adams University College and Steve Francis, managing director of Vion’s pork business.
Richard Hooper manages the 240-sow indoor unit at Harper Adams University College, where he is involved in educating of the next generation of agriculturists in modern pig production. In 2010, he completed a Nuffield Scholarship on the recruitment, training and retention of quality staff in the pig industry.
Steve Francis is leading a programme of change at Vion as the former Grampian and J&J Tranfield businesses are integrated into its existing UK operations. He joined Vion in 2008 when it acquired Grampian Country Food Group and has worked alongside CEO Ton Christiaanse and chairman Peter Barr to fuse Grampian businesses into Vion’s strategic direction.
Bpex chairman Stewart Houston welcomed the two men to the board and said he was looking forward to the enthusiasm and experience that they would bring to help the pig industry in “these challenging times”.
Francis said: “I am excited about joining the Bpex board and supporting in any way I can their excellent work in promoting the British pig industry. Vion is farmer-owned, so is both a pig farmer in the UK and one of the largest processors of British pork. Our future is tied to creating a sustainable, healthy British pig industry.”
Hooper said: “I’m looking forward to strengthening the Bpex connection with science to maximise productivity, efficiency and ultimately profitability in the industry.”
