Lifeboat sausages make waves

 - Published:  01 May, 2011

Ceredigion butcher Rob Rattray has come up with a special blue and orange ‘lifeboat’ sausage to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Aberystwyth lifeboat station and raise money to support the work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in the area.

Rob said: “Some of the RNLI volunteers at Aberystwyth are loyal customers and when I found it was the station’s 150th anniversary, I decided to come up with something a little bit different to raise awareness of the excellent work they do, and also to raise fund to ensure they can continue saving lives.

“The RNLI sausage contains poppy seeds, which provides the blue colour, and marmalade and orange rind for the orange colour. It is certainly something a little bit different and I’m hoping my customers like it.”

The butcher has made sausages to mark special occasions several times, including a Mr Urdd green, white and red sausage to celebrate the Eisteddfod.
