Farmer dyes hair to help street children

Alastair Welford dyed his hair in the town's marketplace last Saturday (20 September) in aid of children's charity Toybox, which seeks to provide hope and opportunities for street children in Latin American countries.

Vibrant Latin American music was piped out into the marketplace as the deed took place. Mel, from local salon Deddington Hair Razers, took charge of the hair dye bottles.

"I can hardly believe what I look like, but really it's all about the children. I just hope it can make a small difference to their lives," said Alastair.

Alastair, who is chair of Trustees for the Christian charity, aims to raise £50,000 over the next few months. The farmer regularly travels to Latin America to meet the children.

There are currently 40 million children on the streets of the Continent, who are driven there by poverty, violence and family breakdown. Alastair will be speaking at various events over the next two months, culminating in presenting a petition to 10 Downing Street about the plight of the street children.
